10 DIY Sitting Projects for a Living Room

From the Eccentric to Esoteric, Ten Choices That Will Knock Your Socks Off (and Hopefully Not Your Butt)

A DIY Sofa Bed with Adjustable Back Rest

Are you tired of uncomfortable seating? Fear not, because we will talk about the convertible sofa bed now! You, too, can make one of these nice pieces of furniture with essential DIY skills and some simple tools.

You gotta saw some thick plywood into six and 17-inch strips. And no, that’s not a new workout routine. Then, you take two of those identical strips and glue them together. We’re getting really artsy and crafty here.

Next, sand it down, bolt it up, insert the conduit, and voila – a comfortable sofa bed ready for a nap! And don’t forget to add some polyurethane for that extra shine. Now, who’s ready to get their DIY on?

Technical Details:

  • Start by sawing the thick plywood into 6 inches and 17 inches strips.
  • Take two pieces of identical size and glue them together.
  • Then, drill pivot holes to the 17-inches panels and the arm pieces where you insert EMT conduits.

After sanding and rounding the sharp edges, screw the pieces together.

  • Use 3/8 inches bolts to create pivot points. Insert the conduit and screw it in place.
  • Then, set the angle of the backrest.
  • Give a coat of polyurethane before assembling the parts and adding the mattress.

A Slatted Frame DIY Sofa Project Idea

Oh, yes! And if you’re looking to impress your friends with a DIY project that won’t break the bank, this slatted frame sofa is the way to go! Don’t worry; this project is easy to handle, even if you’re a beginner. All you need to do is cut the boards into pieces for the arms, back, seat, and spacers.

Then sand them down and coat them with Minwax polyacrylic. It’s like giving your sofa a spa treatment! Next, lay out two pieces for the arms and put a spacer in between. Make sure they create a square and then secure them with screws. Keep screwing each layer until you get enough height to add the seating boards. After attaching the seating boards, continue screwing the arms and back pieces.

And voila! All that’s left is to add a comfy mattress and some cushions. It’s like building a Lego set for adults!

Technical Details:

Once the boards are ready, cut them into pieces for the arms, back, seat, and spacers.

  • Sand and coat them with Minwax polyacrylic.
  • Start with laying two pieces for arms and a spacer in between.
  • Lay a board on the spacer and ensure they create a square.

Then, secure them with screws.

  • Screw each layer until you get enough height to add the seating.
  • Attach the seating boards, then continue screwing the arms and back pieces.

Last, put a mattress and cushions on the sofa.
