12 DIY Projects to Make Your Small Kitchen More Functional and Stylish

8. A Hidden spice door ideas

Transform a boring basement door into a spice rack and pantry with a hidden door handle using medium-quality pine boards, birch molding, plywood, wood screws, finishing nails, thin hinges, magnetic door press catches, Elmer’s wood glue, sandpaper, water putty, primer, paint, and a lever-style door handle.

Begin by building the frame, measuring, cutting, and joining 45-degree boards, and attaching shelves with glue and screws. Cut molding for the outside and dividers for the concealed cabinets.

Prime, paint, and sand all pieces before screwing on the backing boards and cutting out the hole for the door handle. Shave down edges with a Dremel tool and test the clearance. Reinforce the spice rack onto the door with screws and add additional hinges for support.
