7. A Custom Closet Conversion Idea by @Maritedoesit

Kick off your closet conversion with a clean slate. Uninstall those old shelves and brackets. Say goodbye to the past and make room for your fantastic custom closet. Pro Tip: Don’t forget your safety gear – protective goggles and gloves are your best friends!

Get your hands on some 3/4″ and 1/2″ plywood and cut it into pieces for the frame and shelves.

Embrace your inner artisan as you start assembling the frame and shelves. You’re not just building a closet; you’re crafting a masterpiece. Use wood glue and nails to secure joints. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!

Now, let’s build the base for your closet built-ins. Use sturdy 2x4s for this task. Cut them to size, and assemble the base. This foundation will support your whole closet, so make sure it’s strong and level.

Finally, take a moment to look at what you’ve created. Not bad for a day’s work, right? You’ve just created a custom closet. Prepare for your friends and family to be wowed by your carpentry skills!

6. A Basic Custom closet system with a Tilt-out system

Are you tired of having a cluttered closet? Look no further because this basic custom closet system is the solution! But why stop there? This tutorial also includes a tilt-out hamper system, just like our previously featured tilt-out garbage bin. Let’s get started!

1. Start by creating an angled cut on the top edge of the Side Walls to allow the Hamper to tilt open. Use a 16-inch-wide piece of plywood, mark the overall height of the Hamper Side Wall along the front edge, and lower the height by 4 inches along the back edge. Draw a line between the marks.

2. To attach the Front Wall to a Side Wall, apply wood glue to the edge of the Front Wall and place the edge of the Front Wall onto a Side, flush with its edge. Use a drill/driver to screw a 1¼-inch pocket hole screws through the Front Wall and into the Side Wall.

3. Tilt the Door open, apply wood glue to the backside of the Door Front, and center the assembled Hamper on the door. Screw four 1¼-inch screws through the Front Wall of the Hamper and into the Stiles of the Door to hold the pieces in place.

4. To prevent the Hamper from falling all the way open, attach a chain to the Hamper and Cubby. Place a 5/8-inch wood screw through a link in the chain, and then drive it into the inside of the Cubby Wall near the back. Stretch the chain forward and shorten it so that only about 1 inch extends beyond the Cubby’s Face Frame.

5. For the closet system, build it to your needs and make sure it fits properly. Visualize and plan the design, calculate where to add support walls for the bed, and install the drawer slides. Make sure they slide well and are lined up together.

6. Add to the base for the bed or engineered flooring if possible. Finish it off with the final touches, and voila! You now have functional and practical new storage for your small bedroom space.

Who knew that tidying up your closet could be so fun and easy? Get started on this project and enjoy your newly organized closet and hamper system!
