Here’s how to DIY a custom futon base.

  • Start by cutting the pieces to size, and then join two legs with top rails and bottom rails with fillers.
  • After that, cover the sides with plywood.
  • Repeat this step for the other side.
  • Next, attach a rail to the tops of each side and join them. Don’t forget to add vertical and horizontal center supports for extra strength.
  • Attach two rails to each bottom leg, then add the drawer slides and drawers.
  • Finish it off by installing some sweet hardware, lower the futon, and you’re ready to lounge in style.
