A DIY built-in bookshelf project idea
So, you’re either here to see the whole office space or to learn how to build a bookshelf that goes on top of a desk. If you’re here for the latter, congrats, you’ve come to the right place!
Now, before we get started, let me give you a heads-up. If you’re looking for a tutorial on how to do a dado or a rabbit, or anything that sounds like it belongs in a petting zoo, this ain’t the tutorial for you. But, if you’re looking for a simple and affordable way to build a custom bookshelf that looks primo, stick around.
- First things first, make your cuts. Use your circular saw and Kreg rip-cut guide to make plywood cuts.
- Then, take your Kreg pocket hole jig and make four pocket holes on either side of each of your shelves. Make sure to put the holes at the bottom of your shelves.
- And don’t forget to make pocket holes in the top plywood piece of your bookshelf as well.
Unless you want everyone to see your plywood’s dirty little secrets, then by all means, put the pocket holes on the bottom.
Oh, and if you’re just building a regular bookshelf and not something that sits on top of a desk, add one more piece of plywood that mirrors the top piece for the bottom. Trust me; it’ll save you from having a bookshelf with an identity crisis.
