A Custom built-in bookcase idea from Plankandpillow
So, it seems our new tutor here designed some unique built-ins to spice up their living space. He didn’t want a boring old wall of bookshelves, no way. He wanted an open space in the middle for some extra seating and a designated spot for their desk.
Impressive, right?
But before you start getting excited and think you can replicate this, remember that every room is different, and you’ll need to adjust the dimensions to fit your space. And, oh, don’t forget the lumber and millwork needed.
Our master here used Poplar from Empire Moulding & Millwork; let me tell you; how he was pleased with the quality of that wood. Now, the actual building process involves a lot of nailing and gluing, so if you’re not a fan of either of those things, you might want to reconsider.
But if you’re up for the challenge, step one is building the base cabinets, followed by the shelves. And don’t forget to add those tall vertical boards for the shelving!
As for the finishing touches, well, our guru here built the doors himself, but he warned that it’s a whole tutorial in itself. So, you can try your hand at it with a good router table or hire a local woodshop to build them for you. Just make sure you tell them the style and dimensions you want, okay?
