The IKEA Hemnes Hack DIY Mudroom Bench and Storage Project

In wider mudrooms, a large storage bench is preferable. And you can have this unit with an IKEA Hemnes TV unit and wall shelves.

1. First, paint the wall you will use as the background for your mudroom with the color you want.
   Before assembling all the IKEA furniture, you better prime and apply 2-3 coats of paint to the unit according to the wall’s color. After that, let them dry for some hours.
2. Assemble the Hemnes TV unit and Hemnes wall shelves according to the manual. Then set them in your mudroom with 1 TV unit as a bench and two shelving units stacked on each other and mounted on the wall above.
3. Next, nail wood strips horizontally on three sides walls above the top of the bench, then screw the butcher blocks on it.

This butcher block provides additional support for the bench and prevents your TV unit from breaking due to overload.

Next, trim the wall between the bench and wall shelves with wood strips to add accents and make it look like an actual built-in unit. Lastly, add hooks on it for extra storage for your coat.
