I have a thing for bistro chairs. They may not be the most comfortable, but I find them charming and adorable. Last year, I bought one for ten bucks at my local thrift store with the intention of recovering it, but somehow I didn’t get around to it until now… Silly really, because it’s one of my quickest projects yet!
Here’s what I started with:
What you’ll need for this project:
1.Foam (if your chair doesn’t have a cushion already, like mine) and a small saw or sharp knife to cut it to size.
2.A drill or a screwdriver.
First off, I unscrewed the seat from the frame. I had some extra foam lying around from an old chair, but you could easily get some cheap stuff from a fabric.
I laid out the seat on top and cut it out with a mix of kitchen scissors and a bread knife. Then, with the knife, I cut it in half as I only needed a little over an inch for my cushion. It was all very precise and professional.
(I used the right hand one for my chair).
I could have glued it in place with some spray adhesive, but honestly, I don’t sit in the chair all that often, so I figured the fabric would be enough to keep it in place.
Once I had my foam cut to size, I layered with the seat and fabric. I started off by folding in the fabric to make a square and securing it at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock spots of the circle.
(I left lots of excess fabric as I knew I could cut it down as the project moved along).
After those were secured, I folded in the corners and stapled those tightly in place.
At this point, I started trimming down the extra fabric in the corners to avoid extra bulk under the seat and stapled any loose sections in.
Once it was in place, I cut a hole in the fabric where the screws would be.
With that, I screwed it back in place! I really should have done it sooner. It looks so much nicer in the space and was a simple project to make.
Now of course, I have that big empty wall to fill beside it. Any ideas that would complete it without competing with the focal wall on the other side?
BTW, if you have few minutes on your hand, I suggest you to read story behind that huge mirror. It probably give you appealing inspiration that will work nice for your your bedroom too.
And related to bedroom, I think you need reading at least one of this ideas.
