Your living room is often the first place people see when they come to visit you. But if it’s small and cramped, you might not have much choice but to keep it as small and cramped as possible. The only way to make it feel bigger is by making it smell better.
You could replace that stale old couch with something new, but that would be a big money-maker and take up too much space. Or maybe you’d like to bring some color into the room but don’t want to spend a ton on plants that will die in a few months. Maybe you just need to add a little oomph to the air in your living room. Whatever the case, here are some ways to make your living room smell better for less than $100.
Make Your Living Room Smell Good
Often, the best way to upgrade your living room is to simply change the smell. If it smells awful, add one or two drops of essential oil to the water. Place them on a cotton ball and sit there for about 10 minutes before placing them in the air. This trick works well because the oils release slowly over time, so they won’t go bad quickly.
Consider trying out scented candles if you want to add some extra scent to your room. These work great and cost very little. Some of our favorites include Yankee Candles, Prosperity Candle, Conscious step, and Nourish & Refine.
Don’t Let Houseplants Overgrow (or Undergrow)
While houseplants are great for bringing some color into your living room, they’re also notorious for taking up all the available real estate in your home. As such, you’ll want to invest in several options to help keep the plants under control.
The easiest way to do this is to use plant stands and pots. You can find these inexpensively at Target, Home Depot, Amazon, and other stores. You’ll want to pick the ones that fit your specific needs. For example, if you want something compact, you should look for something that fits inside another pot. This way, you can keep everything out of sight.
Another option is using hanging baskets. They look great and cost next to nothing. You’ll want to buy these from Home Goods, TJ Maxx, and Walmart.
Finally, you can buy plant food. This plant is a bit pricier than buying plant stands, but it does the same: helping your plants grow while keeping them contained. You can buy things like Miracle Grow, Plant Nurture, and similar products online and in grocery stores.
