The 12 Best Sheets You Can Buy on Amazon

You're one Prime membership away from a better night's sleep.

Better Homes & Gardens / Henry Wortock

Despite bed sheets being such a personal preference, there's one thing we can all agree on: They're essential to a good night's sleep

While some sheets feature moisture-wicking properties that are a great choice for hot sleepers, others prefer the warmth and coziness of a more supple material. No matter what your preference is for bed sheets, Amazon has great ones to choose from.

In fact, the online retailer is brimming with so many sheet sets that shopping for The One can feel overwhelming. To help you choose the right bed sheet, we tested over 200 options from Amazon over a six-month period.

We considered each set's breathability, texture, and durability as well as how well they held up to washing. We then ranked the best sheets on Amazon in 12 categories, from best cotton sheets to best splurge.

What We Tested
  • Hundreds of Sheets: We've tested over 200 sheet sets to determine which are the best ones available on Amazon.
  • Material: We made sure to explore a wide variety of materials including cotton, percale, eucalyptus, bamboo, satin, silk, sateen, flannel, hemp, and linen, taking breathability, softness, and thickness into account.
  • Care and Durability: Following the manufacturers recommended instructions, we washed the sheets to see if they shrank or incurred visible wear-and-tear. We also exposed the sheets to a variety of staining agents and checked in after six months of use to see how they'd held up.

Why You Should Get It
  • Because they’re made of eucalyptus, the sheets help regulate your body temperature for a more comfortable night's sleep.

Keep in Mind
  • These have a silky, slightly slippery feel that fans of cotton sheets might not love.

The Olive + Crate Cooling Eucalyptus Sheets are the best sheets on Amazon. They’re so soft and smooth, you may feel inclined to stay in bed (but that's what alarm clocks are for, right?).

The sheets are made of eucalyptus, a material known for its thermal-regulating, moisture-wicking properties that'll keep your body cool in the warmer months (or if you're just a hot sleeper in general). We felt cooler and our body temperature lowered when handling them.

They come in several different size and color options—including Basalt Blue, which we tested in our lab—and despite the seams on one of the pillow cases slightly splitting after three months, the sheets managed to hold up well across our six-month testing timeline.

We found that fitting the sheets onto the bed was fairly easy considering they feature a 16" deep pocket. The sheets also have a silky smooth finish and rank highly in terms of texture, but if you're not into a slippery feeling on your sheets, you may fare better with a set of cotton sheets.

Overall, this set outperformed all of the other ones we tested. In fact, we were so impressed that we deemed them the softest, smoothest, coolest sheets we’ve felt yet.

Why You Should Get It
  • These sheets are fairly wrinkle-resistant, making them great for those who don't have time for ironing.

Keep in Mind
  • These aren't the softest sheets we tested.

While this sheet set comes with a lower price point, we found it to be very well made. The polka dots would make a fun addition to a guest bedroom or a children's room, and the construction itself (with the straight, finished contour seams) was notable.

After putting the sheets through the lotion stain test and washing, they held up pretty well. There were no loose threads, snagging, or pilling, and the color remained bright and crisp. No staining of any kind was evident, and the sheets were far less wrinkled (and didn't have a crepe paper-like appearance) than many of the others we put through the same test.

Putting the sheets on was easy thanks to the "top" and "bottom" tag labels, which eliminated the struggle of trying to decipher between the long and short sides. The sheets also withstood any tugging we put them through while making the bed.

If we had to dock a point on anything, it would be the texture, as these weren't the softest sheets we tested. While they don't necessarily feel rough or itchy, they may make a better choice for the summer season when you're less likely to experience rough, dry winter skin.

Why You Should Get It
  • The sheets are extremely soft and do a good job of keeping the bed cool throughout the night.

Keep in Mind
  • The sheets are shiny when light catches them, which may make wrinkles more apparent.

There's no second guessing that the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets are the best sheets on Amazon in the luxury bedding category. They’re pillowy and comfortable, and because they’re made of bamboo, they'll naturally get softer with each wash. This moisture-wicking material is also great for those who tend to get hot while sleeping.

While it's usually difficult for sheets to strike the perfect balance between temperature-regulating and cozy, these managed to deliver. During testing we found them cool to the touch with a silky but not "slides off of everything" kind of feeling.

In fact, they were so inviting that we looked forward to getting into bed each night and thought the sheets reminded them of a fancy hotel. To top it all off, the sheets feature an embroidered logo and come in a reusable tote bag that adds to its luxury look and feel (it's the little things).

When it came time to wash these sheets, the silky-smooth texture remained intact. The sheets didn't exhibit any wrinkles (nor did the pillowcase) post-wash, and while there were a few thread pulls after six months of use, they weren't too noticeable.

One thing to keep in mind is that the sheets give off a slight reflection, which means you may be more likely to see wrinkles when the light hits them.

Why You Should Get It
  • This wicks moisture pretty well — great for sweaty sleepers.

Keep in Mind
  • This set shrinks slightly after washing, so you may have a problem getting them to fit mattresses of 10" thickness or more.

If you're looking for a versatile cotton option, this was the best sheet on Amazon we tried. The sheets are breathable and great for sleepers who run hot, yet paired with a duvet cover, they bring a cozy feel to the bed. They come in 17 colors to suit a variety of palettes and decor.

Even though the sheets are lightweight, we found that they have a heft that makes them feel more expensive. Despite the lower price, the sheets are well-made with great attention to detail as evidenced by the stitching and construction. The fabric was tightly woven (and not see-through), and they were fairly soft, especially after washing.

To test this sheet set's breathability and moisture management, we placed a drop of water in the middle. We found that the water dispersed quickly and grew to a diameter of 1.25 inches but dried quickly, suggesting it would be able to wick moisture well.

While we were able to make the entire bed with the fitted sheet on a 10" thick mattress, it was a bit of a challenge getting it to fit after we washed the sheets. That said, the fitted sheet remained in place when tossing and turning in the bed, and the sheets have placement labels to make the whole bed-making process easier.

For durability, we abraded a small area of the sheet with sandpaper and noticed a little bit of pilling. We also managed to rip a hole in the sheets, so they may be too thin for everyday use. Overall, the sheets performed well in other aspects and we think they're worth the price.

Why You Should Get It
  • The sheets have a smooth, breathable feel, making them great for those who toss and turn in their sleep.

Keep in Mind
  • These sheets lose their sheen when washed.

For sateen sheets at an affordable price, this set from Chateau Home Collection is the best sheet on Amazon. Made from 100% Egyptian cotton, the sheets have a dense, lightweight feel and scored high marks during our various tests.

Specifically, after staining it with lotion we didn't see any signs of staining, discoloration, or grease post-wash.

This set comes with two standard pillowcases, a fitted sheet, and a flat sheet that has a good amount of extra material to allow for draping and tucking into the three sides of the bed. The top sheet had good weight to it and a comfortable feel while laying underneath.

We felt warm (never hot) underneath the sheets, and the pillowcase felt soft and smooth against the head and face. The sheets also had a pleasing texture when rubbing against the skin—they were never scratchy, sticky, or static-y when changing positions.

One gripe we have with the sheets is that they no longer exhibited a silky look after washing (though we noted that the sheets felt softer post-wash). Still, after six months of usage and several washes, the sheets exhibited no signs of wear and tear, loose strings, or shrinkage.

Why You Should Get It
  • This sheet set has an exceptional fit to it—almost like it was custom made to the bed.

Keep in Mind
  • We experienced some quality issues surrounding loose threads and durability.

This percale sheet set is made of 100% cotton and comes in 15 color options. The one we tested was patterned with gold, beige, and gray diamond shapes on a white background. While the sheets didn't feel particularly soft to the touch, they featured the same crispness we'd expect of a percale weave.

For a tester who experiences frequent hot flashes and night sweats, the sheets had a cooling feel and a medium weight that made sleeping comfortable and breathable. After washing, the sheets' crispness remained intact—we also found that the material wicked moisture well and remained cool as it originally did pre-washing.

While making the bed, the fitted sheet stood out—it fit perfectly, was taut on the mattress without any extra fabric, and matched each corner well. The fit was so good that it looked like a custom made sheet specifically designed for our mattress.

The sheets also stayed fitting right during the most restless sleep test, never threatening to ride up or come off. In fact, the corners of the fitted sheet remained secure and the flat sheet stayed tucked in despite several attempts to pull it free with tugs and kicks.

While we found the construction of the sheets to be acceptable, we had some minor quality issues. The fitted sheet had a few loose, entangled threads along the inside corners.

During the durability test, we noticed three holes in the sheets after 25 passes with sandpaper—one large enough to poke a finger through. This suggests that one would have to treat the sheets with great care.

The fitted sheet includes tags that indicate “side," "top," and "bottom" to make bed-making easier. The pillowcases also have envelope closures to more securely hold the pillow from slipping out. Overall, we think that this sheet set is worth the purchase for those who prefer a percale weave.

Why You Should Get It
  • The sheets have exceptional stain-resistant qualities.

Keep in Mind
  • This doesn't come in any sizes beyond standard sizing.

While pricey at first glance, the Coyuchi Organic Relaxed Linen Sheets were the best linen sheets on Amazon we tried. They're made of 100% organic France-grown flax that was woven into linen in Portugal.

When it came time to make the bed, the fitted sheet went on beautifully. It fit securely without having to tug, and there were no visible snags or loose, uneven threads. The fabric had a few small knots (though that's to be expected of linen), but they were evenly distributed throughout.

Most impressive, the fitted sheet remained tightly fitted on the bed while tossing and turning throughout the night.

To test how well the sheets withstood stains, we marked them with coffee, foundation, and oil. All of the stains were completely removed after washing, so much so that we couldn't decipher that the sheet had been stained to begin with.

Also, the texture of the sheet where it had been stained and treated was in good shape and didn't appear any different than other areas of the sheet.

In terms of texture, the sheets felt substantial and cozy to the touch. We noted that the sheets are extremely breathable and that because they're linen, they create somewhat of a tent over the body, which makes them feel less stuffy than traditional cotton or polyester sheets.

Keep in mind that if you have a twin, twin XL, or split king bed, this sheet set won't be able to accommodate as it only comes in full, queen, king, and California king sizes.

Why You Should Get It
  • There's an extra elastic on each corner to hold the fitted sheet in place, which gives the sheets a cleaner aesthetic.

Keep in Mind
  • The colorways featured are a bit bright and there aren't enough neutral options.

While the Bampure 100% Organic Bamboo Sheets come with an under-$100 price tag, they have a silky smooth texture and a noticeable shine that gives them a high-end look. They weren't nearly as wrinkled as other sheets we tested post-washing, and they remained just as silky and lightweight as they were pre-washing.

We were fans of the fitted sheet as it has a stretchy band to hold each corner in place as the bed is made. Overall, the final made bed was aesthetically pleasing to look at. We especially loved the pillowcases—clean stitching with an envelope-style flap to cover the ends gives them a more polished look compared to other pillowcases that don't have this additional feature.

The sheets performed well in the wash—there were no visible signs of wear and they felt very soft to the touch. In terms of breathability, we tested these over a six-month long period (including during a heat wave) and the sheets remained soft yet lightweight and breathable.

We wish this sheet set was available in more neutral colors, though if you're looking for a more saturated shade of purple, blue, or gray, you may like the available options.

Why You Should Get It
  • For being satin, the sheets are breathable and cooling.

Keep in Mind
  • For sleepers who move around at night, the bottom sheet is prone to untucking and getting stuck underneath the body.

Satin sheets are known for being soft and luxurious, and the Lanest Housing Silk Satin Sheets  definitely live up to that standard. Upon testing we instantly noticed that this was a well-made product: The sheets were silky, the color was even throughout, the stitching was consistent, and the seams were wide and smooth.

This sheet set comes in 15 different color options like pink, blue, and silver—some colors also feature stripes that resemble hotel bedding, which we think gives the bed a luxurious look. In terms of texture, the sheets felt soft and lightweight.

Our tester, who typically sleeps with a ceiling fan and a floor fan, also found the sheets to be cooling and breathable.

The sheets fit nicely over every corner of the bed with no flaws. But, while the fitted sheet remained in place while testing, the flat sheet didn't allow us to roll over easily as it kept getting tangled around us when we tossed and turned.

Why You Should Get It
  • If you're not a fan of making the bed, this has labels to differentiate each side from each other.

Keep in Mind
  • It's hard to get stains out of the sheets.

Colorado Home Co's Mulberry Silk Bed Sheets Set received high marks for quality and texture. We didn't notice any snags on the threads or imperfections in the dye, and we appreciated its smooth, buttery feel.

The fabric of the sheets also had some weight and density, which we found pleasant compared to polyester satin sheets we previously reviewed. The sheets performed well in the breathability test, too. Even with blankets on, we didn't sweat as much while sleeping on these sheets.

We even noticed (via a sleep app) that we were turning and snoring less than before we started using these sheets. After washing, the sheets still fit the bed well. There were no loose threads on the seams or corners, and they still had a solid, consistent color throughout.

One of our testers, who sleeps on a memory foam mattress that has remote-controlled incline capabilities, was impressed that the sheets fit his mattress perfectly without any wrinkles.

The sheets also remained in place while using the remote to move the mattress up and down.

Overall, the sheets retained their texture and fit on the bed with ease post-wash. However, the sheets did not perform well on the stain test. While the coffee stain was completely removed, the oil stain was about 50% removed and the foundation was only 10% removed.

However, what the sheets lacked in stain removal, they made up for in durability. After 30 strokes with steel wool, we didn't notice any damage to the fabric. In fact, the steel wool didn't even remove any of the silky sheen on the fabric.

Why You Should Get It
  • The sheets hold up well to tossing and turning throughout the night.

Keep in Mind
  • These sheets are prone to pilling.

If you're a hot sleeper, hemp is a highly breathable material to sleep on. Our tester, who is used to waking up from night sweats, noted that the Everly Hemp Sheet Set felt continuously cool while pressed against her skin.

The sheets were well-made, too—they exhibited straight and consistent stitching and zero flaws or blemishes on the dye. Texture-wise, the sheets felt similar to the linen clothing you'd wear in the summer: lightweight and translucent when held up to the light.

While the unwashed pillowcases had a slightly starchy feel, this is normal with hemp fabric and was gone after three washes.

We also appreciated how well stains were removed from the sheets. After washing, there was no indication that the flat sheet had been stained with coffee or foundation (though it did take three washes to get them completely out).

The fitted sheet went on the mattress well and the corners were easy to wrap without having to exert much effort. The sheets had a bit of slack to them and didn't fit tautly on the bed, but despite this, they didn't roll, bunch, ride up, or come off during the tousling of a restless night.

One aspect of the sheet set we didn't like was how it didn't hold up well during the abrasion test. There was significant pilling and debris on the sheets after 50 swaths of the sandpaper, and the once deep copper color had noticeable fading on the abraded area.

Why You Should Get It
  • This is a medium weight flannel that doesn't feel too heavy or too thin — it's just right.

Keep in Mind
  • This can be pricey for some budgets.

Flannel can typically be heavy, but we found the Coyuchi Cloud Brushed Organic Flannel Sheets to be equal parts cozy and lightweight. It has a soft, plush feel on both sides, and the sheets are breathable even though the fabric is woven tight.

Right off the bat, we loved the softness of these sheets. They have a velvety, cashmere-like feel that will make you want to immediately bury your face in them. Even after washing, the sheets maintained their soft, cozy texture—if anything, they got softer with washing.

They also didn't exhibit any snags or loose threads, and maintained their quality in terms of stitching post-wash.We think the value of this sheet set is worth the price, but it can be pricey for some.

If you're into a minimal aesthetic, the sheets come in an array of soft neutrals like pale gray, light camel, and buttery oatmeal—unlike some of the best sheets on Amazon that come in bright colors. To top it off, the sheets came packaged fully in cardboard inside a cloth bag—no plastic!

The Bottom Line

After extensive testing, we recommend the Olive + Crate Cooling Eucalyptus Sheets as the best sheets on Amazon for their temperature-regulating abilities, smooth texture, broad size and color options, and fair cost for the value.

Our Testing Process

We put over 200 sheets to the test both at home and in our Des Moines, Iowa lab. We tested a variety of materials and weaves, including cotton, percale, eucalyptus, bamboo, satin, silk, sateen, hemp, flannel, and linen options before landing on the best sheets on Amazon.

We evaluated the sheets based on care, quality, texture, breathability, durability, warmth, and how well they wash.

For care, we took into account the pre- and post-wash dimensions of the sheets to see if they shrunk. We also exposed the sheets to lotion and in some cases coffee, oil, and foundation to test how well these stains came out.

For quality and texture, we rated the sheets on how they felt on the skin, specifically whether they felt light and airy or thick and dense. We also considered how well the sheets fit on the mattress and whether or not there was excess fabric when pulled on.

Regarding breathability and warmth, we evaluated how well the sheets retained body heat as well as if they felt stifling or comforting.

For durability, we checked in at one, three, and six months to gauge how the sheets held up, whether or not there were any noticeable changes, and whether they still used the sheets or if they felt the need to switch to a different sheet set.

Lastly, we noted what we liked most about the sheets, what we would change about them, and whether we would recommend it to friends or family. We then compiled the results to name the best sheets on Amazon in 12 categories.

What to Know About Sheets Before Shopping

Material

There are several material and weave options to consider before buying a sheet set. "Cotton is the time-tested king of linens because for centuries, it has provided the best balance of high comfort, high durability, low price," says Leo Wang, bedding entrepreneur and co-CEO of Buffy.

When shopping for cotton bed sheets, it's important to look at fiber quality (versus thread count). Specifically, the length and width of the fiber, says Melanie DiSalvo, founder of Virtue + Vice, a fashion startup consultancy agency.

"A high-quality cotton sheet will have long and thin fibers, which is important because when the fibers are spun into yarns, manufacturers are able to create finer, more supple yarns that can then be woven into more luxe-feeling fabrics."

Wang notes that while cotton is a well-loved material for bed sheets, it typically isn’t grown sustainably, as cotton requires an immense amount of water to cultivate.

Sheets made from eucalyptus, on the other hand, use approximately 90% less water to cultivate, and eucalyptus trees naturally produce high amounts of oxygen compared to cotton plants, helping to counter the carbon footprint involved in textiles manufacturing, notes Wang.

Linen bed sheets are ultra-durable (relative to cotton or other materials) and soften with use, says Wang. "Traditionally, linen has been so durable that [it was] handed down from one generation to the next.” Linen is also extremely breathable, though it tends to appear wrinkly, so keep this in mind if appearance is of concern.

Another bed sheet material to consider is hemp. Wang says that hemp sheets are the most similar to linen in that they're durable and long-lasting. They also come with the added benefit of being gentle on the soil, enriching the land on which it is cultivated.

One con some people find with hemp is that it can feel stiff and scratchy upon purchasing, says DiSalvo, who says that the material gets softer and more comfortable with use and over time.

Weave

Aside from material, the way in which the bed sheets were woven should play a role in your purchase. "A percale weave is the most basic weave used for standard fabrics because it's simple, efficient, and results in a product that's crisp, comfortable, and durable," says Wang.

"Like a cotton material, [percale] is the time-tested result of centuries of textiles manufacturing and appropriate in most circumstances for most sleepers."

If you don't like the matte look of a percale sheet, a sateen weave may be your best bet. "Sateen is a satin weave construction fabric that is made with staple fibers (like cotton or hemp) instead of filament fibers (like poly or nylon)," explains DiSalvo. "A satin weave creates high-shine fabrics that have a smoother hand feel and better drape-ability."

Though a sateen weave can be more fragile and prone to wrinkling, the lustrous look of sateen offers a more luxe, high-end feel. "Most of the time when I present plain weave and satin weave fabrics to my clients they opt for the satin weave," says DiSalvo.

Size

"Fit is important not only visually, but because an ill-fitting sheet will wear down quicker due to added friction that the fabric was not designed for," notes Wang. "Loose fabric on the top or sides indicate that the fit is too large, and if it's difficult to get over the corners (and the fabric is too taut in the corners), this means it's too small."

Other Sheets We Tested

Vonty Satin Sheets

This bedding set had consistent color throughout and a smooth texture. It passed our breathability test and featured satisfactory moisture management—the satin fabric also felt cool to the touch, even when manipulated.

However, they fell short of the best sheets on Amazon when it came to construction. While we didn't find any snags, we noticed several loose threads that we feared would unravel if pulled.

Eddie Bauer - Queen Sheets, Cotton Flannel Bedding Set

We didn't have to struggle with putting these sheets on and they had a good fit on the bed during testing. The flannel sheets also had a warm, cozy feeling without being uncomfortable.

On the downside, the quality of the construction wasn't satisfactory compared to the best sheets on Amazon. We found loose threads, uneven stitching on the plaid pattern, and small white threads spread intermittently throughout the fabric that suggested it would pill.

We would recommend this sheet set for a guest bedroom or situations in which the sheets will not need to be consistently washed.

Your Questions, Answered

What are the benefits of buying sheets on Amazon?

There are several benefits to buying bed sheets on Amazon. While you won't be able to feel the texture of the sheets, the retailer has a host of options to choose from ranging from material, price point, and brands.

This means you'll have a wide variety to choose from, and you can easily compare different options to find the best sheet set for your preferences.

Shopping on Amazon also comes with the benefit of customer reviews, which can offer valuable insights into the quality and performance of the sheets you're considering. Just know that since many reviews are written within the first few weeks of use, they may not represent how well the sheets stand up over long-term use, says Wang.

Of course, if you're an Amazon Prime member, you may be eligible for free and fast shipping on eligible sheet sets. This can be particularly advantageous if you need the sheets quickly or want to avoid additional shipping costs.

How much can you expect to spend on sheets from Amazon?

The beauty of shopping on Amazon is that you'll be able to find sheets in a wide range of price categories. Depending on factors like size, brand, and material, you can find sheets for as low as $30 and as high as $1000.

Are sheets on Amazon good quality?

You can definitely find good quality sheets on Amazon, but DiSalvo recommends really knowing the terms before buying. "For example, thread count isn't really as important as fiber staple length, so if there is a choice between Egyptian cotton and a high thread count, I would go for Egyptian cotton," she says.

The way you care for your bed sheets is also crucial to its overall quality. Wang recommends rotating at least two sets of sheets per bed. "This ultimately results in a longer lifespan for both of those sheet sets," he says.

Products that earn the seal have been put through rigorous testing to make sure they're worth a spot in your home. We buy most of the products we test ourselves, but occasionally we are provided samples by companies if buying isn't an option. In these cases, we use the same testing criteria we use to test the purchased products.
