DIY Boho themed fairy garden with succulents

For this month’s thrift store challenge see how I took an ordinary thrifted fruit bowl and turned it into this darling boho inspired succulent fairy garden for cheap! Succulents are fairly easy to grow and are happiest in the sun with minimal water. They are the perfect plants for someone who frequently neglects their potted plants ;).

I decided to make a quick little video showing you how easy it is to make your own succulent fairy garden from an old fruit bowl (or just a regular planter), scroll down for the video, tutorial and more thrifty ideas from the rest of the hosts.

Supplies Needed:

Steps:

1) Clean the thrifted fruit basket well, and if desired spray paint a new color. Make sure the paint is completely dry and cured before moving on to the next step.

2) Insert cocoa liner into the thrifted fruit basket. If necessary, use sharp scissors to trim the liner to fit perfectly within the fruit basket.

3) Fill the liner with dirt, leaving about 1″ from the top of the basket.

4) Do a rough layout of placement before planting. Arrange and rearrange until you get your preferred look. Remember to keep it full but not cluttered as the plants will grow and fill in some.

5) Place the succulents in preferred area, making sure to cover the roots entirely with cactus potting mix.

My succulents were purchased at Home Depot, already grouped together. You could break up each succulent and plant them separately but I preferred to leave them clumped together so they look fuller.

Add dirt as needed to fill in any areas, and place the figurines in the boho succulent fairy garden.

Give the succulents a spritzing of water, but make sure not to overwater! Succulents love hot weather, and not to have too much water. I also recommend keeping your new Boho Succulent Fairy Garden out of direct hot afternoon sun as the leaves can burn until they adjust.

I found my fairy garden figurines at Michael’s last year. The stools and cactus planter came as a set, the bunny with a floral crown came with a fox but sadly the squirrels made off with that last year. The boho camper and fairy were purchased separately, and it doesn’t look like they are online. I did find this cute little bicycle though! How cute would that be in a succulent fairy garden?

I can’t wait for some of the plants to start filling in!

TLDR? Watch the quick video!
