Ok I have a bit of a confession to make. I collect hats like some women collect shoes. And up until recently I would simple stack them here and there all over the house, where they would inevitably get squashed and collect dust. After wanting to do this project for a little while, I recently created this simple hat rail/rack, a very easy thing to craft which will save my hats from their demise on my bedroom floor! You can add as many hats to this rack as you can fit, layering them as you go using pegs. The best thing is it cal also be used to hang or display your clothes. Winning!
DIY Hanging Copper Hat Rack
You need:
- Copper Pipe
- Scissors
- Pegs
- Rope
How to:
1. Cut your rope to size and thread it through the pipe.
2. Cut a few matching pieces of rope, and then tie it onto the pipe, with matching intervals.
3. Once you’re done, hang your rack on the wall either from hooks in the ceiling or in the wall. Then use your pegs to attach on your hats.
Voila! All done. You can also use it to hang a few other items of clothing on.
This idea is incredible! I have a really long room that us our office and one of the walls is going to be a gallery wall. I wanted to do something cool and different for the hanging of the pictures. I have just found my inspiration.
Thanks for sharing.
LOVE IT!
Glad you like it Michelle. It’s great when you can treat your accessories like art. X
Looks simple but totally stylish!! I need that for my hats too!

This is perfect! I’ve travelled with my panama using your guide and it travelled through flawlessly from Chile to New York to Boston, so we thank you very much ^~
Do you have any suggestions as to where I could find a big big white hat? I saw a gorgeous one on your instagram awhile ago that you were wearing with a bathing suit – you looked beautiful!

Really nice!
So pretty! I love copper for decor – and also incorporating clothes into home design.

This is cute! However, I must admit to owning no hats. I used to buy them, but then never wore them, so I stopped the craziness of always thinking I’ll wear it, and then never doing so.
http://absolutelytara.com
Some people are hat people & others aren’t. That’s just the way it is!! I think we ALL should wear hats like everyone used to, along w/ their gloves! It just finishes off your look! Much easier to do in the winter, particularly in the south!! But hats are great in the South to protect you from the sun, too. The wider the brim, the BETTER! Even protect your shoulders!!
This is such a great idea and adorable! I have slowly been collect hats after wearing them a few time they sit up in my closet and sometimes I just forget about them! This would be the perfect way to show them off in the house but also still remind myself to use them! P.S. you would love the Perfume roundup that we shared on the blog today!

Ohhhh I LOVE the copper. This would look amazing in my room. Would be cool to display photos and other pretty papers or hang pretty bras. (Mostly because my drawer barely has enough room for my aerie obsession at the moment.)

That is such an awesome idea. I’m starting to have quite the collection of hats as well and I really need somewhere to put them all. Stacking them is ok but something like this totally makes a statement, and god knows I love statements. Thanks for the idea!

Great idea!! Like you I buy much more hats than shoes and it’s always difficult to store them in a good way. I would definitely create this!
http://justsem.wordpress.com/
It looks great, thank you for the idea! I wanted to do something really similar with individual hangers at my beach house. I have a question about your method: do the pegs leave marks on the hats? That would be a shame…
Than you!
you would never do this with a good hat, it would ruin the brim. good idea for less expensive hats though
Hi there!
Firstly, THANK YOU!!! Like you, I am a complete hat hoarder (probably got around 60 hats of various kinds kicking about my house!) and I am so mean to them- they are all squashed into several hat boxes, in a crate and others are piled on top of bookcases or hanging on the end of curtain rails- this look so simple, it’s something I could do (I am BAD BAD BAD at DIY!) I shudder to think of what fate has befallen the 1930’s antique red felt cloche at the bottom of the pile!
I do like the ones you have here. Do you have other posts on your collection?
You’ve got a hugely popular and beautiful blog here and I’m quite sure too busy to visit small fry blogs (which is totally understandable) but if you fancied a visit, I am wearing my newest hat!! Come and share the hat love!!x
So glad you like the hat rack! I love your new hat and your haircut đ
Horrible, Looks cheap and commin
What a brilliant idea! I don’t have enough hat stands for all my hats. They end up piled up, but that doesn’t do the shape much good.
This is a lovely idea of storing them.
Thank you!
I love this – such a unique idea and looks really stylish. Copper and other metals are really on trend right now, and there are lots of ways to incorporate them in to your decor… http://www.westburygardenrooms.com/blog/we-love-bronze/ I love how easy this copper hat rack is though!!
I have an extensive collection of gardening hats….okay, hats in general……this is a brilliant solution!
