A DIY Bed Built-in Shelving Project Idea
Who says built-in shelves have to be a pain in the butt? With a few sheets of birch plywood and handy tools, you can create a stunning centerpiece in your bedroom in under a week. And the best part?
- First, measure and cut the plywood sheets according to your desired size. And make sure to remember the dimensions of the cot and headboard.
- Next up, attach veneer edge bands to all the plywood pieces with irons and trim the overhanging bands (adding some flair to our plain old plywood).
- Build two vertical shelf frames for the right and left sides and one horizontal shelf frame for the center shelf from the plywood pieces.
- Secure every part with trim head screws. And just like that, we’re building a new shelving unit from scratch.
- Sand, apply stain and varnish, then let them dry. It’s like we’re giving our new unit a little bit of TLC, making sure it looks its best.
- Now it’s time to mount the center frame shelf to the wall using trim head screws.
- And then, install the remaining shelving unit, including the curved brackets. Make sure everything is level and secure.
- Lastly, add the cove molding and restain or repaint the unit as the final touch.
